So, for those of you familiar with my deep--bording on strange?--facination with Cuba, today's news that Fidel Castro is stepping down is HUGE. Nearly 50 years of tyrannical communist rule--over.

I'm hoping this means I can vacation in Havana sooner rather than later. I'm more optimistic today than I was yesterday--but I'm not exactly holding my breath.

I ran into a buddy of mine who is a producer for the French television network TF1.

She told me how much fun she's having working for the French--spontaneous wine and champagne parties for no particular reason at all, baguettes and pate at editorial meetings, and oh yes--the family friendly flexibility and 50-thousand paid holidays.

Ah, the French!
