It's an election year--so get ready for some good old-fashioned pandering. Next week, the Senate debates and votes on the "Protection of Marriage Amendment." It's an issue that will be talked about on my show this weekend--and countless other public affairs shows. It's an issue--obviously--that hits VERY close to home. It will be very hard to keep my bias in check on this...

It's suddenly summer. Our lower than normal temperatures of recent weeks has given way to the three dreaded H's: heat, haze, and humidity. It was pushing 95 today. At least it was sunny for Memorial Day weekend. We kicked off summer right with a cookout with friends and a trip to that summer staple: Rita's. I didn't know about Rita's delights until the girl filled me on the secret. It's a seasonal operation that serves up custards, gelati, shakes -- and its signature water ices. On a typical night you'll see people of all races and ages there--including more than a few soccer and little league teams.
