2 December 2005

I guess it was the week of car chases. While my partner and I and some friends enjoyed some ice skating at the National Sculpture, apparently there was a high-speed chase -- at rush hour -- from Tyson's Corner, around the Beltway, to Silver Spring. Police were chasing four suspected shoplifters. The scofflaws apparently got off the Beltway at our exit...sped down Colesville Road...and crashed at the end of our street. Three of them jumped out of the car, one was shot (not seriously hurt). All 3 apprehended. The other (a woman) was picked up this morning in a neighboring county. We were wondering what all the commotion was when we returned home around 11:15p. There was a TON of traffic on our street (strange at that late hour) and according to our neighborhood listserv, there were a bunch of helicopters flying around. Crazy.

It's World AIDS Day. Take a look at how Buenos Aires is marking the occasion. Wish our government had the balls to put one of those on the Washington Monument.

29 November 2005

DC's hottest celebrity made his media debut yesterday here in Washington. I love how a cute panda cub can make even the most cynical members of the DC media swoon. Apparently all the public tickets to get a glimpse of Tai Shan are sold out -- some are even being sold on eBay, I'm told....but the good folks at the National Zoo have put on a "panda cam" on its website.

There's currently a car chase on my network. After nearly 8 years in cable news, I've seen many. But this one is the craziest (and longest) I've ever seen. The police had him surrounded at one point, guns drawn, and he got away. Twice. And the newsroom here is at a standstill, complete with oohs and aahs. These are the days I'm glad I'm not an accountant.
