Woke up this morning to the sad news that a fire gutted about half of Eastern Market. The Washington Post has the story HERE. DCist also has amazing coverage and pictures. It is really heart-breaking. And to think--I was just there yesterday--on a clear, blue, sunny day, shoulder-to-shoulder with gaggles of Washingtonians and tourists-- strolling about the flea market, checking out the artists' wares, looking at the fresh produce, even stopping by my favorite cheese place inside Eastern Market to pick up some havarti with dill. While waiting in line, I remember looking around and thinking how happy I was to be there and how much I missed the place. I vowed to make visiting Eastern Market a more regular habit. Now, I don't know when I or anybody else will be able to return.
