Well, another one bites the dust. Yet another high-profile politician is caught in a sex scandal--this time, it's NY Governor Eliot Spitzer who's in a heap of trouble for cavorting with a high-priced call girl. Among the inevitable questions that arise: what the f@%*k was he thinking? did he actually think he would get away with it? what exactly do you get for $4300 a "session"? But the one that sticks out in my mind is: why transport this call girl from New York City to one of DC's most prominent and famous hotels, the Mayflower? Suite 871, to be exact. Why not some sleepy B&B in Vermont? What about a Quality Inn in Hoboken? What about ANYWHERE but a hotel in the middle of downtown Washington, just 4 block from the White House? Now THAT'S hubris, in my book.
Meanwhile, the Washington Times wrote up this interesting little piece about all the historic (and merely interesting) events that have taken place there, including suite 776 where President Franklin D. Roosevelt wrote the famous line "We have nothing to fear but fear itself."
But sorry, Mayflower Hotel--you're STILL no Watergate.
