27 March 2008

It's going to be a trying weekend for Washingtonians.

First, there are the famous Cherry Blossoms. They are expected to peak this weekend --just in time for theNational Cherry Blossom Festival. Bumper to bumper traffic, tourists darting in between cars, tour buses clogging all the roads, masses of humanity hovering around the Tidal Basin snapping pictures of the pink flowering trees...(By the way, Metro is ready...or so they say.)

Oh, then there's the National Marathon, too. That's Saturday. Road closures, traffic tie ups galore.

And if all that wasn't enough, this weekend the Washington Nationals' new stadium officially opens with an exhibition game Saturday and the regular season opener on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves. It will be the first test of all the planning that has gone into getting baseball fans by car, bus and train to a place they've never been.

Let's just say I'm VERY glad I will be NEW ORLEANS!
