I know, I know. It's been a long time since I last posted. Highlights since I last wrote, in no particular order:
1) My cousin Mike's visit. He's actually my 2nd cousin. But he's the only living member on my father's side of the family and my only connection to my dad's birthplace, Biddeford, Maine (where the older residents still speak French!). He's totally built like my dad and totally sounds like him, too. He even has curly hair (my dad had blonde, curly hair back in the day. That's where I got mine from.) Highlights of that visit: a Maine lobsterfest (he drove them down in a cooler all the way from Maine), a Memorial Day weekend BBQ at my aunt's in southwest DC, and dinner at Hank's Oyster Bar on 17th Street (lesbian owned!)
2) Pride. We skipped the parade, but hit the street festival. I look forward to it every year--it's very affirming to see the diversity and beauty of my community. Lots of corporate sponsors as well as the usual bevy of community groups. One of the booths offered tarot card readings...and something called "crotch blessings." I was asked if I wanted mine blessed as we walked by. I smiled and mumbled something under my breath. How does one respond to such an offer? Also ran into my very first girlfriend, Stef. It was awkward, but it was nice to see her. (What's pride without running into an ex?)
3) (Work) Week from Hell. Was the lead producer on six (count'em!) television shows last week. Very long days and lots of stress. But the girl (as usual) was a huge comfort and source of support for me. She knew how stressed I was--two nights in a row I came home to candlelight and dinner on the table.
4) Relaxtion at Home. Recovered from my work week from hell--with a very relaxing weekend at home. We did our usual weekend errands/chores/running around--but there was also lots of sitting around, napping, cooking, and watching TV, which was just heavenly. I guess we both needed a break. (Though much to our chagrin we found that Discovery Health Channel --our neighbor in Silver Spring--has a dwarf show of their own, called "Meet The Fooses". We watched a little bit. But there's nothing like the Roloff's show "Little People, Big World" over at The Learning Channel. I'm almost embarrassed at how much I like that show. (The girl totally makes fun of me about it, too.)
1 Comments:
Just to be clear, you don't have blonde curly hair as your post suggests. . . except, perhaps for the little curl in the back.
