Enjoying a much needed day off today to catch up on things after spending this weekend on the road. We drove up to Syracuse (actually a little south of there) for a family wedding Saturday and Sunday. It was a quick, tiring, but wonderful weekend.

Some highlights/observations:

1) You know it's love when you spend every waking (and sleeping!) moment with the same person--including 13 hours in a car--and not get sick of that person. And we hadn't even showered on the drives up and back.

2) I love Barbra Streisand. The girl loves Barbra Streisand. But after multiple listenings of her new live in concert CD (2 discs, mind you) even WE are sick of her. AND what's the deal Il Divo? (According to Wikipedia, they are basically a glorified Italian boy band.) I mean, I don't mind them singing some random song with her. Fine. But when they start singing "Evergreen" in Italian, I have to draw the line.

3) It was quite fun staying in Skaneateles, NY--a quaint little lakeside village on one of the Finger Lakes (near where the wedding was.) I'd been there a couple of times to visit, but it really was a kick to wander around with the girl and spend the night at a cool B&B there. We'd love to go back some day and explore all the wineries around there and the other Finger Lakes.

4) Cousin's wedding. It was at a little Chapel overlooking Oswasco Lake. We were a little late (bad directions on my part), but I don't think we missed much. (It was fun peeking through the window and trying to sneak in without laughing.) The reception was at the Springside Inn, where my brother and sister-in-law had theirs. We had a round of drinks beforehand with the family (Gram had her requisit Manhattan--straight up) at the Inn's bar. It was really nice being all together for a happy occasion.

5) On the way back to DC--stops at a Friendly's for a couple of peanut butter & fudge sundaes (in kid sizes.) I also picked up some Canadian beer (Molsen's) along the way.

Il Divo was invited to sing with Barbra by Barbra. They are a UK band formed by Simon Cowell (American Idol). Simon had opera scouts go to 17 different countries to audition opera singers for Il Divo. They are all opera singers with 10 to 25 years of opera experience except Sebastian who is a vox pop singer. Each member is from a different country - David, USA; Sebastian, France; Carlos, Spain & Urs is Swiss. If Il Divo sang Evergreen in Italian it's because Barbra wanted them to...she totally controls her concerts. So don't be so hard on Il Divo. If you were asked by Barbra to sing in her concerts wouldn't you?
