My partner called -- from her place of business -- to direct me to the build-a-bear site so I could see the "skating bear." I THINK I was successful in convincing her not to purchase this item. I mean, she IS a figure skater, but c'mon now.

You missed the whole point. It's not that she really wanted to buy it, but rather it was a broad hint that she wants this as her next gift.
Speaking of gifts and holidays, I completely forgot to call on your birthday. That makes me a bad friend.
