6 September 2006

Got our official Maryland voting guides yesterday. The Democratic primary is next Tuesday, and because Montgomery County is so Democrat-heavy, the winners from the primaries 99.9% wind up in office. It's a big change from when I lived in DC when we had no representation and there were only a handful of local races that mattered. I've had to do a lot of reading and research, and still I'm undecided about a few races. There are yard signs everywhere, candidates at the Metro, several voting guides, debates, meet the candidate events, TV and radio commercials, direct mailings. Even messages on our answering machine. It's so fun to live in an area where people take their politics seriously.

As DCist points out--District residents got their voting guides yesterday too. But several thousand had guides with the wrong precinct information on them---meaning those people are likely to go to the WRONG polling place next Tuesday. Fabulous.
